Who Are We

Long Lake Improvement District was established September 7, 2005. Board Members for the District were appointed by the Isanti County Commissioners September 21, 2005 and the initial organizational meeting was held November 22, 2005. Our Mission is to serve as a steward of our community to protect and improve the quality of Long Lake. We will work cooperatively with the Long Lake Improvement Association and County and State Agencies to continuously refine our goals and develop annual work plans to meet those goals. We will oversee funds collected and expensed to accomplish this mission.
Our Goals Are To eliminate the infestation of Curley Leaf Pondweed.
Improve natural aquatic vegetation.
Improve the overall water quality.
Improve fisheries.

What Do We Fight Against

Curly leaf pond weed and any other invasive weeds that are not a benefit to our lake.
Shoreline run-off by installing beautiful native vegetative buffers on the lakeshores.

Our Accomplishments

A Lake-Wide Project to control Curlyleaf Pondweed and Eurasian Water Milfoil. The treatment of Curlyleaf was only needed in 186 acres in 2011! This area of coverage was down significantly from the early years as we treated 350 acres in 2008 and 300 acres in 2007.
The MnDNR Reports that native vegetation population improved to 18% in 2010 and it appears to be improving in 2011.
Our managed water quality monitoring plan dictates that we take regular water samples and sechhi disk readings. We continue to see modest improvements in lake water quality.
Fisheries, the MnDNR has introduce walleye fry into the lake, the latest being another 600,000.
Shoreline Management grants have been awarded to many lake residences. The results have been beautiful!
